Jessica M. Moody is an Australian Upper YA fantasy author and the author of Dabakarn, the first novel in a planned fantasy series. She first started the book in early July 2022 while working full time as a lawyer. Etching away bit by bit, she built out the series and is hoping to bring it to the world in 2027.

Jessica’s work is influenced by her proud Aboriginal Noongar and Welsh heritage, and explores belonging, inheritance, power and the consequences of what came before. Drawing readers into a world where old stories still shape the present.

What to expect from Dabakarn

Dabakarn is an upcoming Upper YA fantasy by Australian author Jessica M. Moody. It follows a girl as she is called to Malkar, a hidden magical school that chooses its students and places them into one of four Houses.

With her sister believed dead, children disappearing, and pieces of her own memory missing, Milika begins questioning everything she has been told.

The story combines ancestral magic, inherited power, family secrets, magical training and a mystery stretching across generations.
